Quality and safety

We know it’s not enough simply to say that we provide safe, quality services. We think our ongoing improvements in patient safety and quality care speak well of our commitment in this area—a commitment to our patients, employees and communities.

Olmsted Medical Center is committed to improving the quality of patient care and patient safety. We regularly re-certify our services and facilities through the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). We also focus on ongoing quality improvement projects throughout the organization and use a team approach to continuous improvement.

Our team consistently provides high-quality care, as indicated by our top-tier ratings in many categories of diabetes care, according to MN Community Care Measurement. Olmsted Medical Center physicians and clinicians score well on the Minnesota Measurement Project’s quality indicators, confirming that we are competitive with our Minnesota peers in delivering high-quality healthcare.

Olmsted Medical Center is enrolled in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “5 Million Lives Campaign” and continues to focus on all applicable national patient safety goals.

Ongoing safety and quality work includes a clinician-led Chronic Disease Management team working on helping patients manage conditions including diabetes, congestive heart failure, preventive health services, asthma, and postpartum depression. Our Level IV Trauma Hospital rating, Hospital Rapid Response Teams, prevention of skin breakdown and decubitus ulcers, and the prevention and control of Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureas (MRSA) infections are just a few of Olmsted Medical Center’s advances in patient safety and quality care.
