Lactation Services

OMC’s lactation services offer comprehensive inpatient and outpatient breastfeeding support to parents and infants.

A team of international board-certified lactation consultants provide personalized assistance to mothers. Our lactation specialists and nurses have a more than an 80% breastfeeding initiation rate at OMC's hospital.

To be clear, we will not pressure you to breastfeed your child. Our team believes the method of feeding is a personal choice each mother makes, depending on her unique situation. And we don’t believe in an “all or nothing” approach—our lactation team can help you find a combination of breast- and bottle-feeding that works for you and your baby.

Lactation services are available during the hospital stay, after mother and baby return home, via telehealth from branch clinics, and via OMC's nurse line.

Our lactation specialists provide education and assistance with:

  • previous negative experiences with breastfeeding
  • difficulty with latch
  • sore nipples
  • engorgement
  • milk supply
  • infants with slow weight gain
  • multiple births
  • premature infants
  • food allergies or intolerances
  • infants with sucking difficulties
  • babies with health or medical concerns
  • adoptive breastfeeding education and support
  • breast pumps (instruction, cleaning, and sales/service)
  • weaning
  • combination breast/bottle feeding
  • returning to work/school
  • breast reduction or augmentation concerns.
