Wound Evaluation & Diagnosis
After your referral to the Advanced Wound Healing Clinic at Olmsted Medical Center, you will undergo a complete examination to identify the type of wound you have and the underlying problems causing it. This will help your doctor determine the most effective treatment options to meet your needs.
Comprehensive Wound Assessment
The first appointment consists of a full assessment to determine the cause of or reason for the wound, the appropriate type and size of the wound, your overall health status and your ability to take part in the therapies you need.
Some of the diagnostic tools used to determine your condition may include:
- Laboratory evaluation
- Radiology, including MRI
- Transcutaneous oxygen test
- Vascular studies, including electrocardiogram
- Ultrasound
Wound size and depth are documented at the initial visit and again at each subsequent visit to track your healing process.

Based on your evaluation, your doctor will develop for you a customized treatment plan that includes therapies best suited to your needs. Olmsted Medical Center uses an interdisciplinary approach to your care to provide the maximum, most comprehensive healing possible.
