Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Your doctor may recommend outpatient hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed the healing process of your wound. Trust Olmsted Medical Center to provide you with the sophisticated treatments you need to get well.

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe, evidence-based treatment proven to speed the healing process in certain types of wounds. During treatment, you will relax inside a clear, pressurized chamber filled with 100% oxygen. This quickly increases the concentration of oxygen in the bloodstream, where it's delivered to your wound site for faster healing. Essentially, this therapy helps heal your wound from the inside out.

This therapy can:

  • Reduce swelling
  • Fight infection
  • Build new blood vessels
  • Produce healthy tissue
  • Improve circulation
  • Speed treatment of certain conditions, including crush injuries, osteomyelitis, compromised skin grafts and flaps, and brown recluse spider bites

Many patients find HBOT relaxing. The chambers are equipped with televisions and comfortable bedding, so you can watch your favorite movie or television show or simply take a nap during treatment.
