"Prescription for a Healthy Life"

A weight and health management program teaching life-long skills toward achieving optimal health and wellness. New programs begin monthly. For more information, call 507-292-7155.

Our Approach to Weight Loss

While focusing on each person's total health, we have developed valuable expertise in teaching people what they need to know to manage their weight and overall health. We emphasize the skills and behaviors needed to live a healthier, happier life. Each patient is assigned a professionally trained health educator / coach who guides the learning of essential behavioral skills while receiving necessary medical interventions. The entire program requires patient compliance with specific strategies. The patients work towards measurable goals while learning important life-long skills in weight and health management. The program is data-driven, and each patient's results are collected and analyzed to ensure program quality and to continuously monitor the program's success.

The multidisciplinary staff has specialized training in behavior modification, weight measurement, and exercise science. This team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, dieticians, exercise specialists, and health educators.

About the Weight Management Program

Treatment

The state-of-the-art medically directed weight loss treatment provides intensive lifestyle education, personalized attention and follow-up, and a nutritionally complete diet.

Provider

The Program is licensed through Health Management Resources (HMR®) of Boston, the nation's leading provider of medically supervised weight management programs. Since 1983, HMR® programs have helped more than 800,000 people lose weight while learning healthier lifestyle skills.

Philosophy

Successful weight management is a matter of learning and practicing new skills - not willpower. The program focuses on teaching new skills that will improve both weight management and overall health.

Treatment Options

Medically Supervised

Our premier treatment plan is specifically designed for those who need to lose 30 pounds or more.   It promotes rapid weight loss under medical supervision.   The plan uses only nutritionally complete HMR® weight loss food replacement products instead of grocery store food.

Healthy Solutions®

This treatment option promotes slower, more moderate weight loss for those who need to lose 30 pounds or less.   It uses nutritionally complete HMR® weight loss food replacement products along with vegetables and fruits.

Program Procedures

Screening

Participants receive a medical screening to determine the appropriate treatment option and level of medical supervision.   The medically supervised treatment option includes a physical exam before beginning weight loss.   During the diet patients have scheduled medical visits, laboratory blood analysis, and EKGs.

Weekly Classes & Coaching

Specific life-long skills and necessary lifestyle behaviors for keeping the weight off are taught and practiced.   Simple strategies for integrating physical activity are a primary focus.   Participants receive telephone and / or e-mail support from their coaches in addition to attending mandatory classes each week.

Maintenance

After the weight loss phase, participants attend weekly classes, where they receive support and learn additional strategies for maintaining their weight and health in the "real world."   Personal coaches work closely with each individual to practice and over-practice healthier weight management skills until they become second nature.

Healthy Solutions®

This treatment option promotes slower, more moderate weight loss for those who need to lose 30 pounds or less.   It uses nutritionally complete HMR® weight loss food replacement products along with vegetables and fruits.

Published Data

HMR® sponsored research and weight loss data have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, International Journal of Obesity, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of American Dietetic Association, Diabetes Care, Journal of American College of Nutrition, Annals of Internal Medicine, International Journal of Eating Disorders, Metabolism, and Preventive Medicine.

Cost

Prices vary according to length of weight loss phase and level of medical supervision.   Some costs may be covered by health insurance.
