OMC Patient Stories
In July 2009, Olmsted Medical Center introduced a new brand symbol and tagline for OMC’s 60th anniversary. Known as "Phase I" of our new multimedia public-awareness campaign, this began a period of stronger, more consistent branding of OMC in Southeastern Minnesota. As market research continues to tell us that “word of mouth” is the most important factor in choosing OMC, and because one of our best-known market differentiators is the exceptional personal care we provide, Phase II builds on our already strong brand promise by showcasing our patients’ stories in their own words. Phase II material focuses on four care areas: orthopedics/rehabilitation services, weight-loss surgery, women’s health, and OMC’s BirthCenter. We take OMC's brand promise very seriously, and feel confident that these materials reflect that promise -- and the ways we make good on that promise -- in an accurate and positive way.
Rather than "invent" patients and testimonial stories for our Phase II campaign material, we worked with clinical caregivers to find patients in these service areas who were be willing to share their OMC experiences in public. We interviewed roughly 12 patients and distilled the four most resonant stories into the media that makes up our Phase II advertising. The words on each advertisement are that patient's words; the experience those words relate are that patient's honest experience at OMC. Each contributing patient was consulted at multiple steps during the development of this material to make sure our presentation of her story was authentic and realistic, and each fully agreed that it was.
