OMC Plastic Surgery
Body Procedures
Plastic surgery is an option for people to reshape their lives. Whether it’s a reconstructive or cosmetic procedure, our team has the unique privilege of empowering our patients’ bodies, minds and spirits.
At Olmsted Medical Center, our team specializes in a variety of procedures designed to improve nearly every aspect of the body. Each procedure is described, along with expected results, which vary by patient. You also can view animations and video explanations, provided via understand.com. These are noted where available. If you need more information, please contact us.
BODY CONTOURING
Repair: Surgically treating wounds and scars resulting from trauma and pressure ulcers.
Brachioplasty (arm lift): Reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, by reducing sagging skin and laxity.
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck): Reduces localized fat in the abdominal area and minimizes loose, sagging skin. Also corrects the separated abdominal muscles due to pregnancy.
Circumferential Body Lift (lower body lift): Following massive weight loss, this procedure reduces loose and excessive skin and fat to restore body contour.
Thigh Lift: Improves the contours of the inner and outer thigh. Incisions can be hidden by most clothing and swim suits.
Body Liposuction: Removal of excess fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise.
Post Trauma Repairs
Each trauma injury is different and may require different techniques. The surgeon assesses the situation, consults with your physician on your overall condition and health, and develops a surgical plan. In all but emergency repairs, you will be fully informed and involved in the treatment plan.
Body Contouring (after massive weight loss)
In recent years, procedures such as bariatic surgery, as well as extensive exercise and weight loss programs have increased demand for reshaping the body and the face. Procedures and techniques used depend on the amount of weight lost, the person’s skin quality, their age and other medical conditions. A significant number of these procedures need to be adjusted or modified for patients with massive weight loss. Following any of these procedures, a one - two week downtime is typical.
Those procedures include, but are not limited to:
- Abdominoplasty/panniculectomy (tummy tuck)
- Brachioplasty (arm lift)
- Mastopexy (breast lift)
- Breast augmentation
- Circumferential lower body lift
- Thigh lift
- Buttocks lift
- Gluteal augmentation via fat transfer
- Face lift

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
The removal of excess fat, loose skin and tightening of muscles in the abdominal area through plastic surgery is called a tummy tuck. While the procedure usually involves the area of the lower abdomen, it can extend around the sides to the back and from the rib cage down. It is not a substitute for weight loss, but rather a means to tighten up the skin and reshape the contours of the body after one has lost weight or has stabilized after other body changes, such as pregnancies, prior surgeries, weight fluctuations or inherited characteristics. The goal is to flatten the abdomen and improve weakened muscles.
About the Procedure
As all individuals are different, the procedure will need to be customized to your particular body based on your history and the extent of the area involved. An incision is made in the lower abdominal region, between the pubic area and the navel, to remove fat deposits, excess skin and realign muscles.
Considerations
- If you plan to have more pregnancies or you think you may have major fluctuations in your weight, a tummy tuck should be postponed.
- Patients with a positive outlook, in general good health, non smokers, and moderately fit can expect an optimal outcome.

Sometimes exercise and a proper diet aren’t enough to overcome certain body contours caused by fat deposits, which may be the result of genetics. When healthy eating, calorie watching and specialized exercises fail to eliminate localized fat, liposuction may help restore the shape you’re trying to achieve.
About the Procedure
Liposuction is the surgical removal of excess fatty tissue in localized regions of the body. While it is often performed as a separate procedure, liposuction is often done in combination with other plastic surgery, such as breast lifts or tummy tucks.
Localized fat deposits may be removed from areas of the breast and chest, cheek, chin, neck, arms, legs, abdomen, waist, hips, and buttocks.
Considerations
Liposuction is not:
- A treatment for cellulite or obesity
- A replacement for proper exercise and diet
Ideal candidates for liposuction are individuals who are healthy, non-smokers, who have not undergone surgery at the locations in question, and have a positive outlook. People with high blood pressure or diabetes should discuss these and any other pre-existing medical conditions with the surgeon.
