Wendy Scheckel, RN-BC, PhD, is Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, Minnesota. As CIO, she has oversight and administrative responsibility for clinical informatics, population health technology solutions, data analytics, Information Technology infrastructure and solutions, clinical technology solutions, HIPAA security, technology integration and IT project management.
Wendy has a passion for helping clinical staff optimize the utilization of technology to provide the most efficient, effective, and high-quality patient care. She brings a wealth of experience to the CIO position. She began her career at OMC as a registered nurse in what was then called labor and delivery. In 2000, she transitioned to the Information Technology department and has held the positions of clinical data analyst, clinical systems manager, director of quality services, and director of clinical informatics. Wendy maintained her nursing credentials while completing her Master of Science in Health Informatics and her Doctor of Philosophy in Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, MN.
Her expertise and experience at OMC is broad and entails not only the procurement, implementation, and utilization of technology, but also direct oversight of our care delivery model. She has been instrumental in the Epic implementation and system utilization, as well as the development and application of data governance and analytics throughout our organization.
