Important: Road Closure Near OMC Hospital
UPDATED: 11.13.2025
With winter approaching, the City of Rochester and Olmsted County will pave a temporary road with a four-way intersection at Fourth Street and 19th Avenue SE near OMC Hospital for use during the winter months. The temporary road is expected to open to traffic the week of November 24, thereby removing the current detour. The roundabout will be completed next spring, with full project completion anticipated in June 2026.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to navigate these route changes impacting patients and staff.
UPDATED: 8.18.2025
As infrastructure updates continue at the 19th Avenue SE and Collegeview Road intersection, impacting Olmsted Medical Center Hospital and Women’s Health Pavilion, necessary dynamite operations are scheduled to take place beginning Monday, August 18, lasting a minimum of three days. Blasting will occur periodically between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Due to its proximity to the blasting area, the north parking lot serving OMC Hospital and Emergency department will be impacted during this time.
Additional information to consider during the blasting timeframe:
- During the blasting and drilling process, you may experience minor ground vibration.
- Before each blast, a horn will sound three times. When the blasting operation is completed for that blast, a horn will sound one time.
- There are usually two blasts each day weather permitting.
There will be no impact to hospital services or building structures.
The City of Rochester is preparing for upcoming road construction that may affect how you get to Olmsted Medical Center’s (OMC) Hospital and the Women’s Health Pavilion.
Beginning on August 4, road work will begin at the intersection of Fourth Street SE/Collegeview Road SE and 19th Avenue SE. This project is expected to last until the end of November. If you are driving westbound on Collegeview Road, you will need to
follow a detour.
What you need to know:
- Use the detour from East Circle Drive to Highway 14, then to 15th Avenue SE (by Cub Foods) and turn right on Fourth Street SE to reach OMC. Patient parking is still available. You can reach our parking lots by following the detour to Fourth Street SE. Please watch for pedestrians and yield to ambulances entering the lot.
- The main entrances to the Hospital and BirthCenter will remain open. The parking lot entry points on 19th Avenue SE may be closed at times during the project.
We understand this is an inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your flexibility and patience.
