Wes Emmert, ACT (Retired), CSCS, Sports and Athletic Performance Lead
Wes Emmert
Wes serves as the Sports and Athletic Performance Lead, bringing more than 30 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University and completed graduate studies in exercise science at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Before relocating to Rochester, Wes spent 12 years as a strength and conditioning coach at Boston College, where he worked with collegiate athletes across a range of sports. Today, he trains both individual athletes and teams, as well as individuals from the general population seeking to improve performance, strength, and overall fitness.
Wes is also certified in Functional Movement Screening (FMS), a seven-point assessment used to identify movement dysfunctions and asymmetries, helping guide targeted, effective training programs.
Steve Nelson, Skating & Hockey Training Lead
Steve Nelson
Steve is a Lead Skating and Hockey Trainer who brings extensive playing and coaching experience to OMC’s Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance hockey programs. Known for his energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the game, he is dedicated to helping athletes develop their skills and reach their full potential.
Originally from Albert Lea, Minnesota, Steve began his hockey career locally before being drafted by the Junior A North Iowa Huskies of the USHL. During his two seasons, he helped secure a Junior A National Championship and earned recognition with a North-South All-Star Game selection. He went on to play Division I hockey at Colorado College in the WCHA, where his accomplishments included All-Academic Team honors, competing internationally with Team USA’s Team Colorado, and contributing to a WCHA McNaughton Cup championship.
After retiring from competitive hockey, Steve settled in Rochester with his wife, Amy, where they are raising their three children—each of whom has been involved in local hockey. He has generously dedicated much of his time to coaching with the Rochester Youth Hockey Association and is passionate about mentoring and developing athletes through OMC’s hockey programs.
Miles Clifton
Miles Clifton
Miles is a Strength and Performance Coach with OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance, joining the team in July 2022. He earned both his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University.
Prior to joining OMC, Miles gained experience working with athletes at Northwest Missouri State University, William Jewell College, and Harvard University. Most recently, he served as the Director of Athletic Performance at Luther College for two years before relocating to the Rochester area.
Originally from Mound City, Missouri, Miles developed a lifelong passion for athletics and fitness at a young age. He credits a high school track coach and strength coach as a key mentor who inspired his love for training and shaped his approach to coaching.
Miles enjoys working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, helping them build strength, improve performance, and reach their personal fitness goals.
Blake Hageman, CSCS
Blake Hageman
Blake is a Strength and Conditioning Specialist who is passionate about helping athletes build strength, confidence, and performance at every stage of development. Originally from Ossian, Iowa, he graduated from South Winneshiek High School before earning his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Sports Psychology and a minor in coaching from the University of Northern Iowa.
Blake completed an internship with SMAP in the summer of 2021, an experience that sparked his passion for a career in strength and conditioning. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and currently serves as the Iron Tiger Strength Coach at Stewartville Middle/High School, where he supports both in-season and off-season athletes across all sports.
Olivia Smallbrock
Olivia Smallbrock
Olivia is a Strength and Performance Coach whose passion for training is rooted in her experience as both a youth hockey player and collegiate student-athlete. A Spring 2023 graduate with a degree in Exercise Science, she is a former SMAP athlete who played for the Dodge County Wildcats before continuing her hockey career at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.
During her time at UW–Eau Claire, Olivia gained valuable experience working alongside the strength and conditioning staff and supporting athletes across a variety of sports teams. Her background as an athlete gives her a strong understanding of teamwork, discipline, and the demands of competitive sports.
Olivia enjoys working with individuals of all ages and takes pride in helping athletes grow—both in performance and as people.
Cody Beach, CSCS
Cody Beach
Cody joined OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance in September 2016 as a Strength and Performance Coach. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, with a minor in Nutrition, from Winona State University.
Cody is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and holds additional certifications in Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Reflexive Performance Reset (RPR), allowing him to support athletes with targeted, performance-driven training and movement optimization.
Before joining OMC, Cody completed internships with both Saint Mary’s University in Winona and OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance. He also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.
Outside of work, Cody enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, watching sports, grilling, and riding motorcycles.
Aaron Haupert
Aaron Haupert
Aaron is an Assistant Skating and Hockey Trainer with extensive experience developing hockey players of all ages. A Duluth, Minnesota native, he played college hockey at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He also holds a Level 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certificate.
With over 15 years of experience as a hockey trainer and instructor, Aaron has worked as an assistant coach for Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s hockey teams and has trained multiple high school and youth hockey teams. He has also served as a coach and evaluator for several Minnesota high-performance hockey camps.
Aaron’s coaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, skill development, and fun. He is dedicated to helping athletes reach their goals and strives to bring out the best in every player. He looks forward to working with participants in OMC’s hockey programs.
