Behavioral & Mental Health

Mental health is an important part of overall wellbeing. At Olmsted Medical Center (OMC), our psychiatry and psychology teams provide compassionate, confidential care for patients of all ages. From children and adolescents to adults and seniors, our providers work closely with you to understand your unique needs and create a personalized care plan.

Why Choose OMC Psychiatry & Psychology?

Mental health care is some of the most personal and sensitive care a patient receives. Our psychiatrists, psychologists, and support staff build strong, trusting relationships with patients to ensure treatment is comfortable and effective.

Intake Process

We carefully match each patient with the most appropriate provider.

Individualized Treatment

A special registry tool is used to track and categorize depression, helping us tailor care to each patient. While algorithms and evidence-based guidelines inform treatment, your plan is always personalized.

Comprehensive Team

Our providers specialize in caring for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

Conditions We Treat

Our psychiatry and psychology services include prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of conditions, such as:

  • depression
  • anxiety disorders
  • bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
  • substance abuse and chemical dependency
  • developmental disabilities
  • sexual dysfunctions
  • adjustment disorders
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Our Services

We offer a variety of treatment and support options:

  • Confidential counseling: One-on-one or family counseling in a safe, supportive environment
  • Medication management: Evidence-based prescribing and monitoring by our psychiatrists
  • Telemedicine services: Certain counseling services are available virtually when an in-person visit isn’t possible
  • Outreach services: Our mental health providers are available at OMC branch clinics in Byron and Pine Island, with plans to expand further through in-person and telehealth care
  • Coordinated care: If you need more intensive inpatient treatment or a service not available at OMC, we coordinate your care with collaborating facilities in the region

Crisis and Urgent Care

For urgent but non-emergency mental health needs on weekends, patients may visit our Miracle Mile clinic on Saturdays from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM or our Owatonna clinic on Saturdays from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

If you are experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts, please go directly to the nearest emergency department.

Psychiatry vs. Psychology: Which is Right for You?

Our intake process helps determine the best provider for your needs. In some cases, you may see:

  • psychiatrists, who can prescribe and manage medications
  • psychologists, who provide counseling, therapy, and psychological testing
  • both, if a combined approach will best support your treatment.
