What Makes Recovery at OMC Different?
- Personalized guidance – Your care team gives you tailored instructions based on your surgery.
- Focus on comfort and safety – We help you avoid complications while promoting faster healing.
- Ongoing support – From physical therapists to surgeons, you’ll have a team you can rely on at every step.
Sleeping After Surgery
Getting quality rest is an important part of recovery.
- After knee surgery – Rest with your knee straight as much as possible. Avoid placing pillows under the back of your knee. You may be able to sleep on your side soon after surgery with a pillow between your knees for comfort.
- After hip surgery – Sleep on your back with toes pointed up. If you sleep on your side, place two pillows between your legs to keep your hip safe. Follow your doctor’s advice to avoid twisting, bending, or crossing your legs during recovery.
Showering and Everyday Activities
- Showering – Most patients can shower the day after surgery. Use safety equipment such as a non-slip mat or shower seat. Avoid soaking your incision for six weeks.
- Driving – Do not drive until your surgeon gives you approval, usually four to six weeks after surgery. Never drive while taking prescription pain medications.
How Long Will My New Joint Last?
Modern joint replacements are designed to last. At OMC, you can expect:
- A new joint that lasts at least 10 years—often 20 years or more thanks to advanced technology.
- Better long-term outcomes if you stay at a healthy weight and avoid high-impact activities like running or jumping.
