Hockey Skills Training

Focus on your technique and build fundamental skills with help from the hockey experts at Olmsted Medical Center's Sports Medicine & Athletic Performance (SMAP) facility. During training, you'll learn to improve your abilities, lessen stress on the body, and learn to prevent injuries.  In addition to hockey skills training, we offer skate sharpening services.

Partner with hockey specialists who have years of experience working with athletes at the youth, high school, college, and professional level. 

Advanced Equipment

Grow stronger and faster in a controlled environment using our Blade® hockey treadmill and synthetic ice training. Hockey Ultimate Training (HUT) Program

See your skills grow and rest assured you're getting the most advanced training. That's because Olmsted Medical Center's Hockey Ultimate Training (HUT) program uses the USA’s Hockey American Development Model (ADM).

Note: OMC’s HUT programs are not designed to treat injury.

Hut Evaluation

In one of your first two sessions, an OMC hockey specialist will evaluate your overall performance. Then, you'll focus on building skills in:

  • Passing and multitasking
  • Shooting
  • Skating
  • Stick handling

Skating Skills

Use our synthetic ice and hockey treadmill to work on the following skills:

  • Balance and control
  • Confidence on skates
  • Crossovers
  • Fuel system (high intensity) and endurance training
  • Inside and outside edges
  • Multitasking
  • Posture training
  • Speed, quickness, and agility
  • Stride work
  • Transitioning on and off the ice

Shooting, Passing, & Stick Handling

Grow confidence in:

  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Passing (forehand, backhand, and saucer)
  • Shooting (wrist shot, backhand, snapshot, and slap shot)
  • Soft and quick hand work
  • Stick handling

Learn to Skate Stride Program (Ages 6 & Under)

During a six-week program, your child can learn to skate, practice their stride, practice good posture, and other fundamentals. The programs meets two times each week for one hour per session.

Super Mite Rising Star Program (Ages 7 & 8)

This six-week program meets one time each week for one hour. In addition to the fundamentals of skating, your child can focus on:

  • Handling a hockey stick
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Multitasking
  • Passing (forehand, backhand, and saucer)
  • Shooting (wrist shot, backhand, snapshot, and slap shot)
  • Soft and quick hand work
  • Speed, agility, and endurance

Hockey Standard Program

This six-week program to develop skating and hockey performance meets one time each week for one hour. Athletes must be at or above the Youth Hockey Association skill level of Squirt (boys) or 10U (girls).

Hockey Ultimate Program

Take part in this advanced program for athletes at or above the Youth Hockey Association skill level of Squirt (boys) or 10U (girls). This program meets two times each week for one hour per session. 

Adult Novice Hockey Program

If you're a beginner, participate in our program for hockey novices. It takes place over six-weeks during one-hour sessions held once weekly.

One-On-One Hockey Training Program (All Ages)

Train towards your goals using our hockey treadmill and/or synthetic ice during sessions that progressively increase in intensity and duration.

Custom Shot & Injury Prevention Services

  • Custom Shot Strength Training (3 sessions per week for 6 weeks)
