Our Patients' Bill of Rights

At Olmsted Medical Center every patient is important and valued. We promise to:

  • Treat you with courtesy, respect, and dignity.
  • Keep in mind your cultural, psychological, spiritual, and personal values.
  • Give you appropriate privacy.
  • Help you with any communicating on impairments and for those who speak a language other than English.
  • Keep your health information private, except when required by law.
  • Let you approve or refuse the release of medical records.
  • Tell you about your health, ways to treat a health problem, and the outcome of an illness. If it not advised to give the patient directly, we will give it to an authorized person.
  • Partner with you on making decisions about your healthcare.
  • Give you information on:
    • Patient rights
    • Patient responsibilities
    • Services available at OMC and in the community
    • Where to get help after-hours or for an emergency.
    • What services cost
    • Payment rules
    • Your right to refuse taking part of research studies
    • Who to talk to if you have a complaint or feedback about your experience.
    • Advance directives
  • Let you chose your healthcare provider or specialty healthcare providers.
  • Tell the truth about OMC services.

Minnesota law requires that your healthcare provider or healthcare facility recognize your rights while you are receiving medical care, and that you respect the healthcare provider or facility’s right to expect certain behavior on the part of patients.

So that you are an informed, we recommend that you read the Minnesota Patients’ Bill of Rights statement.
