Our Commitment to Quality and Safety
We believe safe, high-quality care is more than a promise—it’s a daily practice.
OMC participates in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “5 Million Lives Campaign” and follows all national and state patient safety goals. Each year, we re-certify our services and facilities through the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and take part in long-term quality improvement projects across our organization.
Our care teams use a team-based approach to improve safety and outcomes for every patient.
Ongoing Safety and Quality Initiatives
We focus on many areas of patient safety and quality improvement, including:
- Chronic Disease Management: Helping patients manage diabetes, heart failure, asthma, postpartum depression, and preventive health needs.
- Trauma Care: OMC is a Level IV Trauma Hospital, ready to respond quickly in emergencies.
- Rapid Response Teams: Available to provide immediate care when a patient’s condition changes suddenly.
- Infection Prevention: Focused on preventing and controlling infections, including MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
- Skin Health: Preventing skin breakdown and pressure ulcers through proactive monitoring and care.
These efforts help ensure our patients receive safe, effective, and compassionate care every time.
Recognized for Quality
OMC has received strong ratings from several respected organizations:
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): In 2020, OMC earned a 5-Star Overall Hospital Rating, the highest possible score.
- MN Community Measurement: OMC ranks highly in many areas of diabetes and chronic disease care.
- Minnesota Measurement Project: Our clinicians perform competitively with other Minnesota healthcare providers in quality indicators.
- MNHealthScores: Offers independent ratings showing how well OMC and other Minnesota organizations deliver quality care.
Listening to Our Patients
We value what our patients have to say.
OMC partners with Press Ganey to gather feedback through patient satisfaction surveys. These surveys help us understand what we’re doing well and where we can improve. All responses are anonymous, and the information collected is used only to improve care across OMC.
